Review:
We decided on the Power Plus Swing because we wanted a swing with a plug. We actually bought a smaller, battery operated portable swing, but once we assembled it we wound-up taking it back. The small portable swing was "jerky" and did not have a smooth motion and it was rather loud. This is not the case with the Power Plus Swing. It is a very smooth and quite fully size swing. The great thing though, is that, even though it's full size... it doesn't take up as much room as some of the cradle swings.
My daughter, absolutely loved swinging in the swing. She was a colicky baby and spent a lot of time in a carrier on mommy. There were times when I did need a little break (i.e dinner, shower) and this swing was the perfect solution. She would fall asleep every time she was placed in the swing, so as parents of a colicky baby... we were in love. I am sure this would have happened with any good quality swing, but that's the key phrase... a good quality swing... what I said about the "jerky" movements of the portable less expensive swing... there is no way she would have enjoyed that- to be honest, there is no way I would have put here in it, thus the reason we returned it.
This swing is available in several prints. We chose the light aqua, cream, orange and brown one with the bears and bunnies (the one pictured above). Even though it was aqua, it was gender neutral enough for a little girl.
My daughter has outgrown this swing, she just turned two, but she would get in it if I would let her! The weight limit is 25 lbs, but chances are your little one will outgrow it before they reach 25lbs. My daughter is only 26 lbs at 2. She outgrew it when she became mobile. So, this is one of those get it in the beginning so you can get as much use out of it as possible items.
Would Penny Pinching Parent Recommend This Product?
Would I suggest this swing to someone in the market for a baby swing? You bet! This is one of my top 5 baby items that I am glad we made the splurge on when I look back at things. We actually didn't get it until my daughter was about 5 or 6 months old and we pretty much had to get it (colic). Once we had it and saw how much she enjoyed it, we wondered why we hadn't thought of it sooner.
As for the price? Well, I guess, $80ish dollars may seem a little steep for a piece of baby gear to some of you all who do not consider a swing one of those bare basic baby need items. But, for those moms and dads out there who have or have had a colicky baby... you know how soothing a swing can be and it is worth every penny!
Here is a video addition of the swing in action. It has been sitting in the corner of our playroom and today I finally decided to pack it away (we don't want to get rid of it, not yet). Before I packed it away I took a little video of it in action- minus a baby, but you get the idea...
